{ Brooke Shields’s closet, from the March 2012 issue of Architectural Digest.}
It’s Friday and that means another Dream Closet feature. Today we will be looking at the closet of Brooke Shields.
Looking at Brook’s closet I would have to say “nothing comes between Brook and her shoes, nothing”. (Okay, if you are a child of the 80′s you get that). Brook’s closet is surprisingly simple with a rustic Americana charm. This closet has two rows of shoes on the left hand side of the picture and several shoe drawers at the bottom of the closet. The shoes on the left look like they are sitting on a shoe ladder, it reminds me of what we saw in Miley Cyress’ closet in a previous Dream Closet post.
In Brook’s closet I like how there is an actual ladder in this closet. Remember when things are too difficult to get or put away the less likely you will get them or put them away. But the ladder makes getting things and putting them away much easier.
My big question regarding this picture of this closet is where are the rest of her clothes? This must not be her entire closet because surely she has more cloths than what is pictured above.
Simple and sweet. What do you think about Brooke Shields closet?

In December I started my girls playroom makeover and it was going great. You can see Part 1: Stuffed Animals, Part 2: Collections, Part 3: Box Refresh, Part 4: Dress Up, and a side post on Organizing Fairy Wings (you’ll only need this if you have young girls) by clicking the above links. Then, I’m sure you can relate, my family and business life got very busy and my project had to slow down. It happens, even to organizers! So here is what I’ve been working on over the past few weeks.

I was struggling with how to display my kids artwork. I had tons of ideas but nothing was clicking. Then I started looking at every available frame we had in the house. Ah ha! I remembered that we had this cork board that I had never used and this mirror that I just wasn’t ready to part with in the attic. Oooh, my vision was starting to come together! My number 1 assistant (my husband) carefully removed the beveled mirror (which was glued) from the white carved frame. Fortunately it came out in one piece!

Then we gave each frame a few coats of high gloss black spray paint for about $7.00. The white was nice, but the black POPS against the walls. Next we found this galvanized sheet metal at the home improvement store. Amazingly, one sheet was exactly the amount we needed for both frames! The metal cost about $10.

We glued the metal to the frames using a hot glue gun then tacked the backs of the frames back on.

The frames were positioned and hung and I used a metal magnetic clip for the first frame. I love that these are magnetic so we can move things around and I don’t have to worry about tacks falling on the floor and getting lost in the carpet.

Since my cork board frame was very simple I added an embellishment to the top that I found at Hobby Lobby for about $9.00. I didn’t even have to spray paint it!
Then I used magnetic sheets to make magnetic photo corners. Are those cute or what?

My friend Barbara had told me about these sheets for another project so I had recently purchased these from Office Depot. I cut a piece of card stock into a 3 inch by 3 inch square and then cut a diagonal line to make two triangles. Then I cut out the little notches. I just eyeballed the first one and then used it as a template. I ran the card stock through my sticker maker (but you could just use scrapbook glue if you have some) and then attached it to the magnetic paper. I cut the pieces out with scissors and then I was done! Super easy!

So now I have an easy way to change out my children’s artwork! What I also liked about this project is that I think these magnetic boards can grow with my girls. In the future when they want to hang up posters of Justin Bieber or Harry Potter now they have a place. Oh, wait that’s already happening. Oh well, maybe I can fen those off for a little bit longer. Ha, ha!
Overall this DIY project cost me about $26.00. Not bad. Let me know what you think or tell me about what you were inspired to do with your children’s artwork.

WOW! Looking at Kim, Khloe & Lamar, and Kourtney Kardashians closets has been- well, dream! It’s interesting how different all the closets are in both material and how they are organized. But one thing that unifies the Kardashian closets is shoes and handbags! They love their shoes and know how to keep them organized. Let’s take a peek inside the last Kardashian Dream closet: Kourtney!

{Photo from Closet Factory}
Kourtney has a lot of fun things going on this closet but the first thing I want to point out is the necklaces hanging just above the chair. It is so cleaver how they are taking advantage of the space on that narrow wall for jewelry storage. This is an easy jewelry solution anyone can do. In Kourtney’s closet it looks like they simply installed three hooks or pegs into the wall. Installing the hooks in a stair step pattern is visually appealing and allows the eye to focus on each grouping separately rather than seeing them as one mass of necklaces.
The next thing I noticed is the orange storage boxes and books at the top of the closet. I LOVE this! Most people have old yearbooks, scrapbooks, or other books that they want to keep but don’t necessarily want to display. By covering them in the same paper or cloth that matches your décor the books become a lovely focal point rather than an eyes sore. The covered boxes are also a perfect place to store mementos: paper, items, or clothing.

Like Khloe, Kourtney’s shoes are beautifully organized by color. Notice how in the picture above Kourtney is using a retractable valet rod to display a jacket and hang her golden gladiator sandals. Valet rods are one of the most highly underutilized closet tools. Retractable valet rods (like the one in the above picture) are excellent because you can push them out of the way when they are not in use.
Overall, Kourtney’s closet is fun and refreshing with lots of little storage surprises. So which Kardashian closet do you like best: Kim, Khloe & Lamar, or Kourtney?

That’s right this is a double dream closet post! Call it a his and hers. Today we will be looking at Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom’s closets. Of course Khloe’s closet is fit for a Kardashian but when I saw Lamar’s closet, I was in organizing heaven!
Khloe’s closet is a lovely, fresh, feminine white with that gorgeous chandelier. You can see the shelves at the top are just the right size for her expansive collection of handbags. Notice how she has them separated by having the small ones on the bottom shelf and the large bags on the top shelf.

Ooooh!!! Check out the shoe storage! Notice how each pair has one shoe facing forward and one facing back. This is a fabulous insider space saving secret!!! Why? Typically the fronts of shoes are wider than the backs so when you store a pair of shoes facing the same direction they will take up more space. Try storing your shoes like this to save a little room in your closet. Did you notice how the shoes are also organized by color? Love it!

In this picture you get a better view of Khloe’s entire closet. She has drawers galore and you can see how much hanging space she has. If you look towards the back of the closet on the left you can see she is using double hang with pants or skirts on the bottom. You can also see how large the dressing island is. Most likely she has drawers that open on both sides which offers tons of storage space. If you look closely you will see on the very edge of the left side of the picture there is a full length mirror. Bravo Khloe! I’ve said it before, all women should have a full length mirror in the closet or nearby to make sure everything is in place before they head out the door!
