Top Three Tips for the Closet

Closet Organizing Tips Featured on Mix 94.7 FM

Closets are another area where a lot of people struggle with keeping it pared down and in good shape. Our clothes is a reflection of our personal sense of style and when an old favorite piece has seen it’s better days, it can be hard to let it go, thus causing our closets to overflow. Many people are bringing in new clothing each season so it’s important to have a plan in place to say “out with the old and in with the new”.

Here are three tips to help you start your closet organization.

1. Group like items with like items based on use first then color. Weekend casual shirts together, business casual blouses together, evening blouses together, jackets, camisoles, etc. This can really help you when getting ready in a hurry; because you know which area you need to look in. Once in these categories, you can sort them from light to dark if you would like. Grouping items together will also let you see how much of one category you have.

2. Reduce clothing to only the things you wear, you love, and are in great condition. They must fit and flatter you! Not only must you love the clothes, but the clothing must love you too!!! If it’s the wrong size or color, that clothing does not LOVE you and it’s time to let it go. If you are keeping it for nostalgic purposes and just can’t let go of an article of clothing then you need to find a new location for it.

3. Transform your space by using the most accessible part or parts of your closet for your in season clothing, shoes, and accessories, these are the items that are in season now that are your current wardrobe staples. Everything else should be separated into another location in the closet or properly stored away for the season.

These are just a few tips to help you get started with your closet. Of course there are many more tips we can offer you to help transform that overstuffed closet into the stylish space you deserve.
