Shipping Deadlines –Are Almost Here

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

Mail Box  Isn’t it amazing that the holidays are already here?  Where did the time go?  The good news is that there are still 22 days left until Christmas, the bad news is that there are only 15 days left until what UPS predicts will be the busiest day to ship packages for the holiday season.  So, what’s an organized person to do?  Read my blog of course!   I have done the leg work for you and pulled together some resources to help you determine where, when, and how much it will cost to ship your packages.

One of the best web-sites I found was from UPS.  One their site you can calculate your shipping time and cost by inserting your package origin, destination, weight, and shipping date.  You can also find store locations if you don’t know where the nearest UPS store is.  The UPS web-site also has some great shipping tips to make sure your packages arrives at the right location in one piece.

The U.S. Postal Service web-site also features a tool to help you calculate your postage.  They also have a holiday mailing calendar  and the international mailing deadlines.  Did you know that the deadline for mailing Military packages to Iraq and Afghanistan is December 4th

Obviously there is a lot to consider when mailing packages so take a look at some of these web-sites to determine what your deadline will be and what service you will use to mail your packages.  Personally, I will be setting a goal of December 15th to get my packages out.  What’s your goal?

My packages arriving before Christmas rather than in the New Year, that’s the good life.

Enjoy,

Angela

Where to Vote

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

Vote   It’s early voting time and one of the best ways you can save yourself some time is by voting early.  I voted last Wednesday and waited in line for about seven minutes.  That definitely beats an hour or more in line on November 4th!  I don’t know about you, but I have better things to do with an hour than spend it in line.

So how do you know where to vote?  One neat tool that I found is from our friends at Google.  You can go to Google and enter your address and zip code to find out your polling location.   You can then click on the “Absentee ballot and early voting information” link which will take you to the Secretary of State’s web-site for your state.  If you are in Texas, like me, you will click on the “Early Voting” link at the top of the page then click on “Find My Polling Place” link.  You will need to enter in your name, birthday, and zip code and then it will give you a PDF list of polling locations in your county.

If you are going to wait for Election Day on November 4th and you need to know where you can vote go to www.maps.google.com/vote.  This new service by google allows you to enter your address and zip code and it will automatically pull up your voting location and a map of how to get there.  How easy is that?!

Don’t delay early voting ends October 31st!  Being organized is about finding the best ways to use your time so you have more time for the good things in life.  So get out there and vote early.

Enjoy the good life!

Simplify Dinner Time with Meal Delivery

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

Pie   Are you looking to save a little time in the kitchen and spend more time with your family?  If you are looking for ways to simplify dinner time on an occasional basis or on a weekly basis a nice alternative to cooking or going to a restaurant is to have your dinner delivered with chef prepared meal delivery services.  Options range from a predetermined meal to a personal chef who can create masterpieces to suit your taste.  Ooh la, la!  What a treat!

How it works:  Many services have a set menu that is posted on their web-site weeks or months in advance.  Each service is different, but typically you will receive a predetermined amount of meals per week.  Check each service to find out the number of servings you will receive.  In many cases orders must be placed on a Friday and your meals will be delivered the following Monday.  For delivery you are asked to leave an ice chest with ice on your front porch and when you get home just like magic your food will be there.

Despite how fancy this may sound the cost of such a service is more reasonable than you may think.  Prices in Austin can range from $70-90/week.  With the price of groceries these days, that’s a great deal!  Also consider the time it will save you from having to shop!

Personal Chefs are different because they are creating meals specifically for you, shop for the needed groceries, and preparing the meals in your home.  The chef can leave meals in your refrigerator or in your freezer.

Here are some links to highly recommended meal delivery services and personal chefs in Austin.  If you don’t live in Austin then you may want to consider doing a google search on “meal deliver services” for your area.

Simplify and Save Time Giving Directions

Friday, August 29th, 2008

Here’s a quick tip to help you simply your life a bit.  When I first moved into my home I was throwing a party and I created a document in Microsoft Word with directions to my house.  I had two sets of directions one for people traveling from north of town and one for people traveling from south of town (that’s just what worked best for me and the location of my home).

This was one of the best things I could have done.  I have used these directions countless times!  Rather than having to write out directions each time someone needs them I simply cut and paste the directions into an e-mail and hit the send button.  It takes about 15 seconds.  It has been such a time saver!

Be sure to include your address at the top of the directions, the directions, repeat your address, and then include your phone number.  This way, you and the person you are giving the directions to have everything in one place.

Enjoy the good life with a little more time,

Angela
