Recycle The Easter Basket

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

The oh so fabulous Melanie Spencer, writer for the Style section of the Austin American-Statesman, interviewed me for an article on Sunday titled “Recycle the Easter Basket”.  The article features tips, from yours truly and Sarah Blanchard owner of Homegirls in Austin, for storage ideas and unique uses for Easter accessories after the last Easter egg has been found.

So take a peek at the link while it is active and let’s get our Easter bunnies packed away for next year while we still have a little energy left from those chocolate eggs.

Enjoy the good life,

Easter Non-baskets

Friday, March 21st, 2008

Easter is just a few days away so here is my favorite tip to help you make smart gift solutions that won’t be too taxing on you storage space.

Give your child, teen, or college student an Easter non-basket.  What I mean by that is a container that is not you typical basket that can be used over and over again after the marshmallow bunnies and chocolates are long gone.  For a toddler, this might be an Easter bucket or pail filled with toy garden tools, outdoor toys, or bubbles.  For a child this may be a backpack filled with goodies.  I always include a variety of toys, candy, and non-sugar items like goldfish crackers in my children’s Easter baskets/containers.  For a teenage girl you can give her a purse or make-up organizer filled with fun things.  Finally, a great Easter basket for college student is to fill a laundry basket full of all the college essential foods, like Macaroni and Cheese, cans of soup, powdered drink mix, and of course cookies.

Choosing containers that can be used over and over again after Easter will keep you from having to store a big pastel basket through out the year.

Enjoy the good life,

Angela

Lose the Paper Weight

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

Filing System   Did you know that one file drawer holds 36.73 lbs of paper?  That means an entire 4 drawer file cabinet holds 146.92 lbs. of paper!  When I used to work in an office we had seven full four drawer file cabinets in my secretary’s office.  That’s equivalent to half a ton!  Yikes!  No wonder many people feel like paper is weighing them down!  People often tell me that they feel a weight has been lifted after they have purged large amounts of paper.

In most cases 80% of filed documents are never referenced again.  So that means most of the paper we are holding on to we will not ever need again!  What great inspiration to start eliminating some of the paper.

Now’s a great time to clear out those filing cabinets and get your files in order.  As most of you know, I love the FreedomFiler paper filing system and you can take a look at it on my web-site, you can even see a video of me talking about it.  It’s hands down the best paper system to use in the home.  I even use it in my home and my husband says “it’s husband friendly”.

Getting rid of piles of paper…what a relief!

Enjoy the good life,

Angela

Time to Spring Forward

Friday, March 7th, 2008

Clock 2   Don’t forget this weekend we will turn our clocks forward because of Daylight Saving Time.  The change happens on Sunday, March 9th and at 1:59 a.m. you should move your clock to 3:00 a.m.  If you are not planning on partying like it’s 1999, then you should just move your clocks forward one hour Saturday night when you go to bed.

You can also visit Time and Date to find the current time anywhere in the world!

Enjoy the good life,

Flying Lite-Not an Option

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

Eagle Creek Luggage  I have had a lot of friends and family members traveling lately and one of them brought this to my attention.  As of February 4th, United Airlines  has instituted a new policy of allowing only 1 checked bag per person for standard domestic passengers.  You can check a second bag for a $25 fee.  Yet another reason to pack lightly while traveling.

If you need help lightening your load and staying organized while you travel take a look at Eagle Creek products.   They offer a bevy of travel gear and accessories to make your trip a breeze.  They have created many products with lightness and durability in mind.  Beyond the fabulous products they also have a great section with travel tips.

Before your next trip be sure to check with the airline to find out what the baggage limit is.  This could save you a $25 charge.

Enjoy the good life,
