Dream Closet – Will and Jada Pinkett Smith

Far from the glitz and glamour of Hollywood Jada Pinkett Smith’s closet seems to beautifully capture her charm and warm personality.  Let’s take a closer look in this weeks The Good, The Bad and The Reality.
The Good
Drawers, drawers and more drawers!  Oh Jada we envy all those gorgeous drawers.  What I like most about these drawers is the size.  They are not too tall to the point that you have to really dig deep into layers of clothes to find what you are looking for.  They are also not too short which typically become over stuffed and end up not closing properly.

The Bad
Clearly Jada loves shoes and could use a few more shelves. It looks like the lower shelves also contain shoes and if you look closely you can see that the depth of those shelves may be about twice the depth of the upper shelves.  In my opinion this is not a good thing!  What this means is that you have a double layer of shoes.  So you either have a.) one shoe in the front row where you can see it and one in the back row or b.) frequently used shoes in the front row paired up side by side as usual and less frequently used shoes in the back row. Why is this bad? Before I divulge let me first make an assumption that those shelves are pull out drawers. If the shelves/drawers do not pull out this is a terrible situation as retrieving any shoes from the back row would be an act rivaling the great Harry Houdini. Okay, now that that is clear.  Scenario a. is not ideal because anytime you want to grab a pair of shoes you have to pull out the drawer far enough to get both shoes.  You also have to use two hands to grab one pair of shoes.  This may seem silly but if you are in a hurry in the morning it’s just one more little step that adds up.  Again this may seem really petty and little, but I had a situation like this for years and it drove me crazy.  I think putting the shoes away was the worst part.  I just wanted to set my shoes down, not go through hoops to do it.  Option b. is bad for the obvious reasons which is, once you put a pair of shoes in the back row and you can’t see them the chances of you ever wearing them again goes down the drain.  They are out of sight and out of mind.

The Reality
If at all possible do not use a double layer for your shoes unless you are severely space challenged and have to.  See my comment above for The Bad if you didn’t just read it to get the full scoop on The Reality.
From what we can see Jada’s closet is amazing!  As usual my only wish is that I could see the entire closet!  Boo hoo!  Maybe someday there will be a tour of dream closets that I can attend!
