This issue has an excellent two page spread on where to donate, recycle, and sell items you no longer need. Another section of the magazine that I really liked is called “Love That” where they show how five different women organized items that would normally go in your closet. Of course, many of the items in this section are not located inside a closet at all, which is what makes this section so much fun. One woman stores her shoes in a beautiful antique glass display cabinet. Love that!
Finally, in my opinion one of the biggest and most powerful things in this issue was on the very last page. This is a letter from Oprah called “What I know for sure”. In this article Oprah talks about a time when she was traveling and how she had to live a very simple life with few possessions. She goes on to say that “Now my life is filled with so much clutter”. She says: “And I’m keeping only that which delights me or enhances my well-being”. It goes on with an amazing quote from my favorite Peter Walsh “in buying what we want we hope to acquire the life we desire…[But] chasing the life you want by accumulating more stuff is a dead-end street.”
When I read her article I thought I wish everyone who wants to get organized could read this. I think sometimes people feel like they are all alone with the clutter and all the stuff, but to hear Oprah talk about it only helps reiterate that clutter happens, and it can happen to anyone! You are not alone.
Again, if you get a chance to pick up a copy of the March issue of O Magazine as pictured above please do. If you don’t want to buy it go to the library or local bookstore and read through it. It’s well worth it.
