Austin Groups for the Elderly (AGE) is a non-profit organization located in Central Austin that provides support, resources, and education for the elderly, caregivers, and their families. Established in 1986, AGE runs four main programs that help them accomplish their mission:
- Elderhaven Adult Day Centers provide safe, professional care and stimulating activities for seniors and adults with disabilities, allowing them to remain living independently for longer.
- The Caregiver Resource Center provides information, consultation, and guidance for caregivers of the elderly and adults with disabilities.
- SeniorNet Computer Learning Institute offers hands-on educational computer classes to older adults of all skill levels.
- The Historic AGE Building houses over 20 local not-for-profit organizations.
If you’d like to donate your time or money to AGE, check out their Support Us page for more information. In particular, AGE also runs a program called Health Equipment Lending Program (HELP), allowing the elderly and people with disabilities to borrow such items as wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, canes, commodes, and shower seats free of charge. All donations are tax-deductable, and AGE can pick up larger items from your home if you are not able to bring tem in yourself.
