Book Review: Organizing Outside the Box

by Angela On October 8, 2010

I recently had a really neat discovery!  In preparing for my recent interview with Hellen Buttigieg, author of Organizing Outside the Box, I learned that I am an auditory learner.  This was a bit surprising to me because I always thought I was a visual learner.  Once I learned this so many things made sense!  This will really change how I do some things and justifies many things I have thought about doing in the past in regards to my messages, reminders, and tasks.  I can’t believe we don’t test children for this in schools.
In her book Hellen discusses the three different learning styles (visual, kinesthetic, and auditory) and how you can work with your natural learning style to be more organized.  If you don’t know your learning style, don’t worry! There is a handy quiz at the beginning of the book.  Hellen also discusses how to keep a space organized when learning styles collide.  She addresses situations at home, work, and with children.
I was very impressed with the book and learned a lot.  I know I will be using what I learned in this book in my household and with my clients.  For those of you who don’t have a lot of time, that’s okay because this book is short and sweet.  You literally could read it in an afternoon.

I give Organizing Outside the Box 5 out of 5 diamonds!
You can order a copy from Barnes & Noble or Amazon.  Or leave a comment by October 27th telling me what space you would organize if you win Organizing Outside the Box, and you will be entered into a drawing to win a copy of the book.  I will contact the winner in 7-10 business days.
Good luck!

Sounds like a great way to learn about what might be stumbling blocks and how to overcome them. I’d love to check out the book and see if it would help my family tackle the “toy tornado” that often wipes out my house on a daily basis.

Thanks for sharing the info Angela!

My entire house could use some help. But if I have to choose just one, it would be the kitchen that presents the greatest organizing challenge.

The book does sound interesting. Teachers can usually identify what kind of learning style a student has. Most people are visual learners. I need the most help in my bedroom. I could use some tips on how to manage the things that I “leave out”,(as in, out in the open), so that I know where they are. I frequently help students with organization, so the book would probably be helpful for that also.

Sounds like some great new concepts. I am always overwhelmed with home office paper clutter as well as closet clutter. I would love to learn more.
