Do you have old tax documents, pay stubs, mobile phones, business-related floppy or compact discs, or other sensitive information that you no longer need but aren’t sure how to dispose of safely? If you live in the Austin area, join the Austin Better Business Bureau and the AARP on Saturday, October 23rd from 9 AM to 1 PM for Shred Day. This event will be held at Dell’s Round Rock Campus at 2401 Greenlawn Blvd., Building #8.
Consumers and businesses are encouraged to bring boxes or bags of documents and disks to shred, as well as old mobile phones to recycle. Additionally, event participants will be given helpful information in preventing identity theft. Shred Day is free of charge and all destructed documents will be recycled, so not only will this event help you de-clutter, but you’ll be helping the environment, as well!
According to the BBB, their last Shred Day helped consumers and businesses shred 150,000 pounds (over 75 tons) of documents, saving the equivalent of:
- 1,190 trees
- 140 barrels of oil
- 490,000 gallons of water
- 287,000 kilowatt hours of electricity
- 2,925 pounds of cardboard
